About the Author and Designer
“I’ve always envisioned myself making a difference.”
When my children were small I opened a Christian gift store. I was inexperienced in business but jumped in with both feet. After five year of struggles, five break-ins and one attempted robbery, I sold the business. Owning Sacred Gifts taught me many life lessons while working with customers.
Reflecting on the relationships I established in my gift store, I began my journey toward chaplaincy work. I fulfilled my internship at St Mary’s Hospital and the V.A. Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado, while completing my four units of Clinical Pastoral Education.
Moving from Grand Junction to Loveland, Colorado, I was fortunate to obtain a position as a hospice chaplain - which included the Inpatient and Home-care teams. I loved the work from the beginning. on new visits with potential families, I kept asking for resources and handouts to give to family members because they seemed overwhelmed by so much information. I was repeatedly told that none was available. Being determined to help, I authored and designed Comfort Care Publications in 2009. My intent was to assist the hospice team members communicate to the traumatized families the benefits that hospice care offers. Hospice has so many avenues to help.
My world turned upside down in July 2010; I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and again in 2011, when I was diagnosed with a very rare lung disease due to my chemo treatments.
Our booklets have made a huge difference to families and care providers across the country. The feedback has been wonderful as we are helping families comprehend much needed information, at a very difficult time in their lives.
God bless you for the work you do.
