About the Author and Designer
“I’ve always envisioned myself making a difference.”
Since going to church was a big part of my growing up, it only made sense that I’d open a Christian gift store. After five years, five break-ins and one attempted robbery, I sold the business; Sacred Gifts is still up and running.
Reflecting on the relationships I established in my gift store, I began my journey toward chaplaincy work. I fulfilled my internship at St Mary’s Hospital and the V.A. Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado, while completing my Clinical Pastoral Education.
Moving from Grand Junction to Loveland, Colorado, I was fortunate to obtain a position as a hospice chaplain - which included the Inpatient and Home-care teams. I loved the work from the beginning. I kept asking for resources and handouts to give to family members because they seemed overwhelmed by so much information, we were telling them. I was repeatedly told that none was available. Being determined to help, I authored and designed Comfort Care Publications in 2009. My intent was to assist the hospice team members communicate to the traumatized families the benefits that hospice care offers.
My world turned upside down in July 2010; I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and again in 2011, when I was diagnosed with a very rare lung disease due to my chemo treatments.
Our booklets have made a huge difference to families and care providers across the country. The feedback has been wonderful as we are helping families comprehend much needed information, at a very difficult time in their lives.
God bless you for the work you do.
